Speaking of Frankenhooker, here's a brief intro for those who haven't had the joy of seeing the film. The plot: a young scientist invents an advanced lawnmower that violently kills his girlfriend by mistake. He keeps her head and decides to create a new body using the best body parts he can find, kind of like that kids' game Misfits. He invents a new drug called 'Supercrack' and uses it to explode prostitutes for their body parts. His girlfriend however is none too stoked on being reincarnated as a zombie hooker. I won't reveal the end, but it involves a sword and a pimp called Zorro... So basically it's a romantic comedy.
A quote: "In a blaze of blood, bones, and body parts, the vivacious young girl was instantly reduced to a tossed human salad... a salad that police are still trying to gather up... a salad that was once named Elizabeth."
Here's something for all the hippies who think they're destroying society's bourgeois preconceptions by getting a nosering: strange artist Stelarc has had a third ear implanted into his forearm. The cell-cultivated ear was surgically inserted beneath the skin, and several more operations are planned to give it more definition. Plus he's got plans to "implant a mic inside the ear that will connect to a bluetooth transmitter, so the ear can broadcast audio from the internet wirelessly"... no idea what he means by that but it sounds like Tetsuo meets Frankenhooker. Very eerie... ha ha ha.

TAKING LIBERTIES is a shocking but hilarious polemic documentary that charts the destruction of all your Basic Liberties under 10 Years of New Labour. Released to coincide with Tony Blair's departure, the film and the book follow the stories of normal people who's lives have been turned upside down by injustice - from being arrested for holding a placard outside parliament to being tortured in Guantanamo Bay. Just saw this outside my flat: a KFC advert which originally showed a woman holding a gigantic tray of deep-fried beaks, claws and snouts (sorry, tender pieces of chicken breast) has been changed so that it nows features a grotesquely obese child... Genius.
